Comparison
GameAP vs AMP
GameAP

GameAP

A free, open-source control panel that runs natively on Linux and Windows. Released under the MIT license: no paid editions, no limit on game servers and no license keys.

CubeCoders AMP

A commercial, closed-source panel from CubeCoders. It runs on Windows and Linux, supports a long list of games and is quick to set up — but it is paid, every edition caps the number of game servers, and commercial use requires a subscription.

Feature comparison

How GameAP and AMP stack up across the features that matter most.

Feature comparison
Feature
GameAP GameAP
AMP

Base game servers management

Install, start, stop, restart and configure game servers.

Yes Yes
Details
GameAP
GameAP downloads and installs the game files for you, then the server is managed from the browser: start, stop, restart, update and reinstall. You also get a live console, RCON player management, startup settings and a task scheduler for timed restarts and updates.
AMP
AMP installs and updates game servers from ready-made templates and runs each one as a separate instance. You get start, stop and restart controls, a web console, backups and a scheduler that works both on a timetable and on events.

File manager

In-browser file browsing and editing, archive extraction.

Yes Yes
Details
GameAP
Server files open right in the panel: browse directories, edit configs in the built-in editor, extract archives and change permissions. Large files upload in chunks and resume after a dropped connection, while a folder or several files download as a single ZIP. Plugins can add their own editors, such as a hex editor.
AMP
AMP has an in-browser file manager for browsing, editing and uploading files. For large transfers every instance comes with a built-in SFTP server.

REST API

Documented HTTP API for automation and integrations.

Yes Yes
Details
GameAP
The GameAP panel is fully controllable through its REST API: creating servers, starting and stopping them, the console, tasks and settings. The OpenAPI specification is published at openapi.gameap.io. Scripts and integrations use personal access tokens limited to the abilities you pick — for example, only starting and stopping servers.
AMP
AMP has an HTTP API too. The reference for its calls opens at the /API address of a running installation, and CubeCoders publishes a ready-made library for Node.js.

Windows support

Ability to install the panel and run game servers natively on Windows.

Yes Yes
Details
GameAP
GameAP installs on Windows 10, 11 and Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025: download gameapctl, run it and click Install in the browser tab that opens. The panel, the daemon and the game servers run on Windows directly — no WSL or virtual machines involved.
AMP
AMP also runs on both Windows and Linux, and comes with a regular installer for Windows.

Docker required

Whether the panel forces all game servers to run inside Docker.

Optional Optional
Details
GameAP
Docker is optional in GameAP: by default game servers run as regular operating system processes. If you want container isolation, a dedicated server can be switched to Docker or Podman.
AMP
Docker is optional in AMP too: by default instances run as regular processes, and on Linux they can be placed in containers instead.

Installation complexity

How quickly you can get the panel up and running.

Easy Easy
Details
GameAP
GameAP installs with a single command. The script asks for the panel address and a database — PostgreSQL, MySQL or the built-in SQLite — and handles the rest. No web server, PHP or other dependencies are required: the panel is a single program with the web interface built in.
AMP
AMP is quick to install as well: a single command on Linux and an installer on Windows. Before the first game server can start, though, a license has to be bought and its key entered.

Automatic SSL certificate

Built-in HTTPS setup with automatic Let's Encrypt certificates.

Yes Linux only
Details
GameAP
GameAP has a built-in Let's Encrypt client: a single gameapctl command obtains the certificate, and from then on the panel tracks its expiry and renews it on its own. No certbot, nginx or cron jobs needed. Both HTTP and DNS domain validation are supported.
AMP
On Linux the AMP install script can set up HTTPS for you: it installs the nginx web server and certbot and obtains a Let's Encrypt certificate for the panel. On Windows this is left to you — the AMP documentation says the panel cannot set it up and recommends putting a separate web server such as Caddy in front of it.

Plugin system

Extend the panel with installable plugins and integrations.

Yes Signed only
Details
GameAP
GameAP plugins install from the official catalog in a few clicks, with no changes to the panel's code. They add new pages, tabs on the server page, file editors and integrations with external services. Plugins are built on WebAssembly: the server side runs in a sandbox with no direct access to files or the network. Ready-made ones include FTP, a hex editor and a Minecraft mod installer for Modrinth.
AMP
AMP is built from modules and has an SDK for plugins, but a regular installation only loads plugins signed by CubeCoders. Running a community plugin takes a separate developer license added to every instance, plus manual file and config edits; a request to make this easier has been open on the project's GitHub since 2023. New games, on the other hand, can be added without plugins — through configuration templates.

Multiple dedicated servers

Managing game servers on several machines from a single panel.

Yes Professional+
Details
GameAP
One GameAP panel manages game servers on any number of machines. To add one, create a dedicated server in the admin area — the panel shows step-by-step instructions for installing GameAP Daemon on it. There is nothing extra to buy or unlock.
AMP
AMP can link several machines to one panel too, but not in every edition: Standard works on a single machine only, and multi-server support starts with Professional.

Open source

Whether the source code is public and can be inspected or modified.

Yes No
Details
GameAP
All of GameAP — the panel, the daemon and the gameapctl installer — is published on GitHub under the MIT license. You can read the code, check what it does on your server, adapt it to your needs or fork the project.
AMP
AMP is closed-source and distributed under CubeCoders' own license: you get ready-to-run programs, and the code cannot be inspected or changed. The project's GitHub repository only holds the issue tracker and documentation; the game configuration templates are the one open part.

Price

What it costs to use the panel.

Free Paid
Details
GameAP
GameAP is free. There are no paid editions, and no feature is unlocked by paying.
AMP
AMP is a paid product sold in editions: Standard, Professional and Advanced are one-time purchases, while Enterprise is a subscription. What you get depends on the edition: Standard allows three additional panel users, webhooks start with Professional, and custom branding, single sign-on and analytics start with Advanced.

Game server limit

How many game servers the panel lets you run.

Unlimited 5 / 15 / 50
Details
GameAP
GameAP does not limit the number of game servers, machines or users. The only ceiling is your hardware.
AMP
Every AMP license caps the number of game server instances: 5 in Standard, 15 in Professional and 50 in Advanced. Running more means moving to a higher edition.

Commercial use

Whether you may sell game server hosting built on the panel.

Yes Enterprise only
Details
GameAP
The MIT license lets you build a hosting business on GameAP, put your own brand on the panel and make it part of your product — free of charge and without asking anyone's permission.
AMP
The Standard, Professional and Advanced editions do not allow commercial use. Selling hosting requires the Enterprise edition — a subscription whose cost depends on the number of game servers. Even hosting servers for friends and family is only allowed from the Advanced edition up.

License keys and activation

Whether your game servers depend on a license check.

Not needed Required
Details
GameAP
GameAP has no license keys and nothing to activate. You can move the panel to another machine or upgrade the operating system — no license check stands between you and your game servers.
AMP
An AMP license has to be activated, and the activation is tied to the machine. On the CubeCoders support forum users describe the license being lost after an operating system upgrade, a hardware change or, for some, a plain reboot — after which it had to be activated again. Until the license is valid again, game servers do not start.

Test coverage

Public test coverage metric and breadth of automated checks across the codebase.

85%+ coverage unit · integration · e2e · mutation
Not published
Details
GameAP
Tests cover more than 85% of the GameAP codebase. The figure is published openly on Coveralls and shown in the GitHub repository. Every change goes through unit, integration and end-to-end tests, and mutation testing checks that the tests themselves actually catch bugs.
AMP
AMP's source code is closed, so neither its tests nor a coverage figure can be seen from the outside.
